In 1983, I was privileged to be asked by Sensei Peter Dennis to be an instructor at his newly formed Jersey Ishinryu club which resulting in my moving from the UK to live in Jersey for a period of 3 years, where I was also selected for the Jersey National Team, winning a Gold medal at the 1984 Jersey Open Championships and was a team member at the 1985 Commonwealth Championships. It was during this period under Peter’s guidance that I learnt the intricacies of how to be a proficient instructor. (I think?)

In 1987 I had the opportunity to work and train in Alberta Canada with the Canadian Freestyle Karate Association, where I stayed for another 3 years before moving back to the UK.
Reuniting with Sensei Peter Dennis in the UK in 1991, this time in the West Country, I helped with the opening of several local dojo’s, and since that time the newly formed SenShinRyu Association has gone from strength to strength. In recent years I have pursued the path of competition refereeing in karate, starting as a Kumite Judge for the ‘Federation of English Karate Organisations’ through to becoming the FEKO chief referee, urged on by Sensei Alf Burgoyne of Swanda Karate to whom I am grateful for encouraging me to follow this path, this in turn has led to me being asked to organise the areas and officials as chief referee at many events for other associations such as the Welsh Bushi Kai Assoc, The United Styles Assoc, Elite Karate Assoc and Sentenashi Karate Assoc.
